How to install Global Protect VPN client from Self Service Portal (Faculty & Staff only)

The Global Protect client from Palo Alto is a state-of-the-art VPN client for secure access to Stevens network resources. This client will work with Windows 7/8/10 workstations. Please note that as you use this client, the default settings will route all internet traffic thru Stevens.

Please note that the Global Protect VPN will require multi-factor authentication using DUO. Additional information on how to setup DUO is available here.

Faculty and staff now have the ability to install software, including the Global Protect VPN client from the Desktop Central Self Service portal when using a Stevens owned computer. Below are the steps on how to install the Global Protect VPN on a Stevens owned Windows computer:

1. At the bottom right hand corner, right click on the icon for Desktop Central as shown below and choose Self Service Portal. *** If you do not see the icon for Desktop Central as circled below on your computer, it may be that this needs to be installed on your computer as well. Please contact User Support Services for assistance. ***


2. A window will open listing several software applications.

3. The first software application to install is Microsoft Visual C++, as shown circled below. This software needs to be installed before installing the Global Protect VPN client. Select INSTALL to install this application.


4. Wait for the software to be installed. Once the installation is completed, it will indicate success.

5. Scroll up to find Global Protect VPN 64-bit and select INSTALL.

6. After the software is installed, then you can begin to log into the Global Protect VPN. For more information on how to log into the Global Protect VPN, please visit the Knowledge Base articles on VPN.
