Adding, Reactivating, and Removing Devices

Linking multiple devices gives you another option when logging in to a Stevens account or service, which will help you maintain access to your account if your primary method of authentication is unavailable. For example, if your smartphone is damaged and non-operational, you can still approve Duo Pushes or get temporary one-time passcodes from your tablet.

Knowing how to manage and reactivate devices will also be helpful if you get a new phone or delete the Duo Mobile app by mistake. Having a second device linked to Duo will simplify this process and allow you to complete it yourself.

Note: You will need access to at least one of your linked devices before you can manage your Duo account or add/remove devices. If you do not have access to any of your linked devices, please contact User Support Services at support@stevens.edu or (201) 380-6599.

Access Duo Account Settings

Duo account settings can be accessed from the Duo Authentication Pane seen when signing into your myStevens account.

Tip: Do the following steps from a private browsing/incognito browsing tab. This way you will not need to sign out of your Stevens account in your main browser window and will ensure that Duo does not automatically bypass your sign-in session. For most browsers, you can open a private browsing tab by pressing CTRL-SHIFT-N on Windows or Linux, or Command-Shift-N on Mac.

  1. Sign in to your account by visiting myStevens (my.stevens.edu) and entering your username and password.
  2. When you get to the Duo authentication pane, do not select any authentication options. Instead, click "My Settings & Devices" on the left side.
If you saw a blue banner along the bottom when the Duo pane loaded, click Cancel and then click "My Settings & Devices."
Before choosing an authentication method, click "My Settings & Devices" on the left side.

  3. Now you will be prompted to authenticate to access your account settings. Choose your preferred authentication method and proceed.
Proceed with your preferred method of authentication.

  4. You will then see your Duo account settings. From here, you can add, remove, reactivate, or rename your devices and set your default authentication method. Once you are done making changes to your account, click Back to Login at the bottom of the pane.

How to Reactivate a Device

There may be some instances where Duo may not be functioning as expected on your device. This typically happens if you delete and reinstall the Duo Mobile app without removing the device first, or if you get a new phone.

From the My Settings & Devices page in Duo, click Device Options next to the device you wish to reactivate. Then, click "Reactivate Duo Mobile." Follow the on-screen instructions to continue reactivating your device. From this point on, the procedure is identical to linking a new device. For more information, please refer to this article on linking a device to Duo.

Click "Device Options" next to your device name.

Click "Reactivate Duo Mobile" to reactivate your device.

How to Remove a Device

If you ever lose access to a device or change your phone number, you should remove those authentication methods from Duo as soon as possible. This ensures that only you are able to access your account.

Important: Before you remove any old devices or phone numbers, please link your new device to Duo first and verify that you are able to access your account from that device. Ignoring this step may lock you out of your account if you are unable to verify your identity. If you need assistance migrating Duo from one device to another, please contact User Support Services by submitting a self service ticket or calling (201) 380-6599.

From the My Settings & Devices page in Duo, click Device Options next to the device you wish to remove. Click the red trash bin icon, and confirm that you want to remove the device. Once you do, the changes are saved automatically.

Click "Device Options" next to your device name.

Click the red trash bin to remove your device.

Confirm that you want to remove this device.
