Spam and Phishing Protection for your email in Office 365

What is Microsoft Advanced Threat Protection (ATP)?

Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) is a Microsoft service for Office 365 email that provides an extra layer of security to external hyperlinks.

ATP offers excellent spam and malicious software protection for your email account when you receive links from non-Stevens email accounts.

Attachments are tested and scanned for unsafe behavior and malicious code. All incoming messages from external non-Stevens accounts undergo both types of scans.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Stevens Institute of Technology and other reputable organizations will never use email to request that you reply with your password, full Social Security number, or confidential personal information.
  • Be suspicious of any email message that asks you to enter or verify personal information, through a website or by replying to the message itself.
  • Never reply to or click the links in such a questionable message.

Safe Links

When an message from an external user contains a clickable image or text, the original address of the link will be replaced by a safe link. You would instead see safelinks.protection.outlook within the link so ATP can scan for spam and malicious code before taking you to the content:
