Symantec Endpoint Protection - Student Information

Symantec Endpoint Protection, SEP, is Symantec AntiVirus® combined with anti-spyware, firewall, intrusion prevention system, application control, device control, and proactive threat scanning into a single client. Symantec Endpoint Protection protects against malware such as viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spyware, and adware. It protections against even against rootkits, zero-day attacks, and spyware that mutates.

Symantec Endpoint Protection is offered for free to any active student enrolled at Stevens Institute of Technology for installation on their personal computer. For further assistance or questions, please contact the Stevens User Support desk at ext. 5500 or visit TRAC, at the entrance of the library.

Please Note — If you already have an antivirus program on your computer, it can cause conflicts when you install another program. You must uninstall your current antivirus software, before you download this version of Symantec Endpoint Protection.


Student Personal Computers (Operating System: Windows)

  1. Visit http://www.stevens.edu/antivirus and download the appropriate version of Symantec Endpoint Protection.
  2. After downloading the EXE file, double click the Symantec Endpoint Protection Installer.exe icon to begin the installation. This will take anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 minute to launch. 
  3. Click Next.
  4. Select Agree and Click Next to accept the license.
  5. Choose if you’d like to join the fight against digital cybercrime and click Next.
  6. Click Install to Begin the Installation.
  7. Click Finish when the install is complete.
  8. At the end, a dialog box may appear saying that your Antivirus Definitions are too old and a live update will automatically start. Click Close.
  9. Follow these steps to Schedule a Virus Scan

Student Personal Computers (Operating System: MAC OS X)

  1. Visit http://www.stevens.edu/antivirus and download the appropriate version of Symantec Endpoint Protection.
  2. After downloading and extracting the ZIP file, double click the Symantec Endpoint Protection Installer.app icon to begin the installation.
  3. Click Continue to run the program. You will need to restart your computer upon completion.

  1. After the installation has finished, select Close & Restart and allow your system to restart.

  1. After restart, open Symantec Endpoint Protection.
  2. At the Symantec client screen, select LiveUpdate Now. This will download the latest virus definitions to ensure that your system is up-to-date.

  1. At the pop-up window, select Update Now. After the LiveUpdate finishes, the installation set-up has completed.
