What is Zoom?

Zoom is an easy-to-use video conferencing tool that lets users quickly and reliably schedule, manage, and record meetings. Zoom unifies cloud video conferencing, simple online meetings, group messaging, and a software-defined conference room solution into one easy-to-use platform. 

The Zoom video conferencing tool has been fully integrated into Canvas and Kaltura, making synchronous and asynchronous communication, collaboration, and presentation easily accessible. 

Zoom offers the best video, audio, and wireless screen-sharing experience across Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Blackberry, Linux, Zoom Rooms, and H.323/SIP room systems. 


Setup & Configuration

To prepare to use Zoom, please click here to learn how to install the Zoom Desktop Client, which offers the best available Zoom experience. After you install the Zoom Desktop Client, you can also access Zoom via the Zoom Web Portal and the Zoom Mobile App with your Stevens Zoom account.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do not install the Zoom Desktop Client, please activate your Stevens Zoom account by following these steps:

  • log into my.stevens.edu
  • select Zoom
  • sign in using your Stevens credentials

Why should you activate your Stevens Zoom account (and not just create an account in Zoom using your Stevens email address)?

  • To host meetings with unlimited minutes and up to 300 participants
  • To gain access to class sessions or other Zoom sessions that are restricted to authorized users only (i.e., users with Stevens Zoom accounts)
  • To gain access to recordings that are limited to authorized users only
  • To receive Stevens IT support with Zoom sessions, recordings, etc.

Using Zoom in Conference Rooms  Faculty, Staff Zoom Room is a software-based room system that provides an integrated experience for audio conferencing, wireless screen sharing and video conferencing.  Zoom Rooms can be used for room only attendees or remote attendees joining from another room, from their desktop, or from their mobile device.
